About this font.

Julieta Ulanovsky was inspired to develop this typeface by the ancient posters and billboards in Buenos Aires' classic Montserrat district and to preserve the elegance of urban typography that evolved in the first part of the twentieth century. As urban growth alters the area, it will never revert to its previous state, and the particular and unique designs will be lost forever. Work, devotion, attention, colour, contrast, light, and life, day and night, are all present in the letters that inspired this creation! These are the ones who contribute to the city's aesthetic appeal. The Montserrat Project began with the goal of rescuing what is in Montserrat and releasing it under the SIL Open Font License, which is a free license.

This is the standard family, which has two sister families, Alternates and Subrayada, thus far. Many of the letterforms in the Alternates family are unique, and 'Subrayada’, which means 'Underlined' in Spanish, honours a unique kind of underline seen in the letterforms of the Montserrat district.

In November 2017, Jacques Le Bailly at Baron von Fonthausen redesigned the family and altered the whole range of weights to make the Regular lighter and suitable for usage in lengthier texts. Julieta Ulanovsky, Sol Matas, and Juan Pablo del Peral, alongside Carolina Giovagnoli, Maria Doreuli, and Alexei Vanyashin, spearheaded the creation of Cyrillic support in the fall.
