Sabon Lt Pro font

About this font.

The German Grasp Printers' Association asked in the early 1960s that an entirely new typeface be designed and produced in a comparable variation on both Linotype and Monotype equipment so that text and technical composition could be matched. Stempel's Walter Cunz replied by hiring Jan Tschichold to restructure Claude Garamond's peaceful and traditional Roman typeface. Its ambitious designs, particularly its italics, are constrained by the constraints of Linotype casting machines, which force the character widths of provided letters to match in between sorts, giving the italic its thin f characteristic.

The name of the family comes from Jacques Sabon, who was the one who brought Garamond's Romans to Frankfurt. Due to its smooth smoothness and, in large part, because Tschichold's ebook typography remains world known, Sabon has long been a favourite of typographers for inserting e-book textual content.

  • Designers: Jan Tschichold
