Arial font

About this font.

Arial is a sans-serif typeface and collection of laptop or computer fonts that are often marketed or presented in applications as Arial MT. Arial fonts are included with all versions of Microsoft Windows from 3.01 onwards, as well as a few other Microsoft application programs, Apple Mac OS X, and a number of PostScript three laptop or computer printers.

Robin Nicholas and Patricia Saunders designed the typeface for Monotype Typography in 1982. It was created to be metrically comparable to the favoured typeface Helvetica, with equal character widths, so that a document created in Helvetica may be shown and printed correctly without having to pay for a Helvetica license.

There are many variations of the Arial typeface: Regular, Italic, Medium, Medium Italic, Bold, Bold Italic, Black, Black Italic, Added Daring, Excess Bold Italic, Light-weight, Mild Italic, Slender, Narrow Italic, Slim Daring, Slim Daring Italic, Condensed, Light-weight Condensed, Bold Condensed, and additional Bold Condensed.

  • Designers: Robin Nicholas, Patricia Saunders
